Though the coronavirus pandemic engulfed the entire world for more than three years, it is subsiding at last. Even in Japan, its category under the Infectious Disease Act has been downgraded to Type 5, the same as seasonal influenza, since May 8th. There is also a national travel support program for the domestic travel market, and with the loosening and lifting of immigration restrictions, inbound tourism is returning as well.
However, there are indications that recovery is slower for overseas travel by Japanese people. Against this backdrop, a weak yen driven by global inflation of fuel costs, etc., is also considered a factor, but overcoming this has become a major challenge.
In this issue, we would like to elucidate the efforts in various locations to relaunch overseas tourism, and examine the recovery plans for overseas travel by Japanese people.
