The three-year coronavirus pandemic brought the Japanese tourism came to a standstill. Although demand quickly recovered once the pandemic ended, for the tourism areas which had been reset, it had become a different world. Tourism areas throughout Japan were pressed to adapt to this new environment.
In this issue, we investigate the ideal approach to tourism area management suitable for this new environment based on the case of Kyoto, which has engaged in tourism promotion the longest of anywhere in Japan.
