For the past 10 years, our foundation has been continuously involved with the disaster areas both directly and indirectly since the immediate aftermath of the Great East Japan Earthquake.
At the five year milestone following the earthquake, we attempted to explore the significance and potential of tourism through the voices of the people working toward recovery on the front lines in Kanko Bunka No. 229 (April 2016 issue).
Five years on since then, with the major changes in tourism trends in the interim, how have the disaster areas approached tourism, and what efforts have they made to restore tourism?
In this issue, a decade since the Great East Japan Earthquake, we once again lend our ears to voices on the ground, and attempt to sum up the actual state of tourism and exchange amid restoration and recovery from the disaster, and the role played by tourism promotion.
